The Tokyo rail / metro system is gigantic, yet runs like clockwork, is very clean, quiet and basically just incredibly impressive. There's no doubt it sets a global benchmark for how metro/rail can and should be done. Basics like colour coding not just lines but the trains themselves, numbering stations matched to the line code, clear platform queue arrangements, etc. Without all of this it would no doubt be chaos given the volumes it transports, such as Shinjuku station with its 3.5 million passengers per day and 200 exits. That station is not for noobs.
I should've spent far more time just riding the system and capturing it, however below are some photos, mostly taken opportunistically.
